Starting in 1895 in the town of Granichen, Switzerland, Jacob Zehnder sold and repaired machinery and motorcycles in his workshop. In 1912 Jakob and his seven sons built a factory to enter the enameling and metal plating market. In 1923, during the recession that followed WWI, the brothers created a niche market for a light motorcycle which proved to be immensely popular, winning races and sparking Zehnderli clubs. In 1930, using technology from the cooling systems of the motorcycles, six of the seven brothers began a new company to reinvent the radiator. By using tubular steel instead of heavy cast iron, they were able to create a more efficient and aesthetic heating system - the foundation of todays multinational company. The acquisition of an electronics company in 1975 has resulted in Zehnders continued advancement and prominence in the heating industry.
